Welcoming MP Vikki Slade to our Step Outside allotment

It was lovely to welcome Vikki Slade to our Step Outside allotment recently, where she got to see firsthand what makes our gardening sessions so special. The sun was shining, our flower and vegetable beds were looking beautiful, the pond was thriving and there were plenty of smiles, laughter and good spirits as everyone enjoyed time together outdoors.

Step Outside offers a relaxed, friendly space for people to enjoy gardening, fresh air and good company. Whether you’re living with dementia, feeling a little lonely or simply looking for a way to connect with others, you’ll find a warm welcome here. Family members and carers are welcome too, with the chance to take a breather, feel supported and enjoy time together away from everyday pressures.

You don’t need any gardening experience to join in. Some people enjoy sitting and chatting, while others get stuck in with harvesting vegetables and picking flowers. There’s also art, crafts, live music, storytelling and gentle yoga, with tea and posh biscuits (and sometimes scones with jam and cream!) to enjoy along the way. It’s a lovely, relaxed afternoon where everyone can take part in their own way.

During her visit, Vikki heard about the difference these sessions can make, as well as the wider work we do at In Jolly Good Company. From supporting people who may be feeling isolated to our Jolly Brekkie Club and Jolly Winter Food Delivery Service, our aim is always to bring people together, offer practical support and make life a little brighter.

A big thank you to Vikki for taking the time to visit us and find out more about what we do. We’re proud of the support we offer, and incredibly grateful to our wonderful ‘Jolly Vollys’ who help make it all possible.
