Our year at the allotment and a Jolly farewell (for now!)

Today we gathered for our final Step Outside session of 2025 at Kingston Lacy Allotments and what a lovely afternoon it was. The garden was full of chatter, laughter, and plenty of good cheer as we got stuck into one last day of autumn gardening together.

We harvested the last of the kale, French beans, and carrots, cleared the runner beans, topped up the compost, sowed sweet peas, and transplanted sweet Williams and onion sets. There was even time to make a start on our new pond project! A big thank you to Duncan and Brian for all their hard work shaping and digging.

Just as we stopped for a well-earned rest, the sky treated us to a classic British moment – sunshine and a sudden downpour, followed by the most beautiful rainbow. Luckily, we had our new jolly polytunnel ready and waiting, the perfect spot to enjoy Anne’s delicious homemade coffee cake and Sandra’s freshly baked scones, all washed down with Dorset tea and coffee.

Although our allotment sessions take a little pause over the winter, we’ll be arranging a get-together soon, perhaps a Jolly late breakfast or an afternoon tea in Wimborne, so everyone can stay in touch. Meanwhile, our amazing staff and volunteers will keep things ticking along, caring for the allotment and putting the finishing touches on the pond.

A huge thank you to Anni for her fantastic work once again this year, and to all our wonderful Jolly Volleys for their time, energy, and smiles. You make our Step Outside days something really special.

We’re already looking forward to seeing everyone again in the spring for another happy, hands-on year at the allotment.
