The Midnight Mission - what’s going bump in the night?

What a spookily delightful time we had at our Wimborne St Giles Jolly Day this week when we were treated to a very special visit from Gill, Paul and Aoife from Brave Bold Drama, an award-winning theatre and community arts company based in Bristol.

They provide free performances and creative workshops for families, young people and people living with dementia in Hartcliffe and Withywood where they are based. So it was extra special that they travelled all the way to Dorset to put on their performance of ‘The Midnight Mission’ for us, and how glad we are that they did.

We started off with a delicious picnic lunch provided by George, Claire and Liz from The Friendly Food Club, there was so much food that we got to take doggy bags home and barely had space to fit in our usual afternoon tea and biscuits!

We were also joined by the children of St Giles First School who thoroughly enjoyed the performance and took part with great enthusiasm.

The story was set in a spooky old house in Switzerland, every midnight, doors slam, books fall off shelves and pictures slip off the wall. Agents Kahlo and Dali of the Company of International Artists are summoned to put a team together to crack the case. And the best bit was we all got to be agents too!

While Agent Dali, played by Paul, was convinced that there was a perfectly logical explanation for the spooky goings on, Agent Kahlo, played by Gill, believed it was the work of the supernatural. It was an interactive performance and together we chased leads and spotted clues. We were all given a ‘Creative Agents Kit’, a map of the house and a paddle which was coloured black on one side and white on the other. Throughout the performance, we were invited to vote and help make decisions for Agents Kahlo and Dali using the paddles. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, it was such an engaging and entertaining afternoon.
