Summer has well and truly arrived, and we’ve got plenty of lovely things happening this month. Read on for all our news, events, and to find out the dates and times for our Jolly Days.

Allotment Summer Gathering

When: Friday the 17th July from 5 – 7 pm
Where: Kingston Lacy Allotments, BH21 4EF

You are invited to join us for a very special, not-to-be-missed, evening of wonderful music with drinks, nibbles, and a performance from the outstanding folk band Lydia Laughing, who will be giving us a taster of what’s to come at their full acoustic concert on 25th September at Wimborne St Giles Church (more details to follow). It’ll also be a chance to enjoy our beautiful garden, including our new pond and polytunnel.

This is a fundraiser to allow us to be able to continue our Jolly Days. Cash and cards can both be accepted at the door.

Luke Conquers The Wall

On Saturday 13 June, Luke Ballard successfully completed one of his bucket-list challenges: Rat Race The Wall. Running the full length of Hadrian's Wall from Carlisle to Gateshead in Newcastle, he covered more than 70 miles of demanding terrain, including challenging climbs, to finish within the event's 26-hour time limit. Competing against around 2,500 entrants, Luke achieved an impressive top-20% finish while raising funds for In Jolly Good Company.

A lovely quiche and salad lunch by The Friendly Food Club, followed by an oboe recital with musician Sarah Pugh, a craft activity with Max and some gentle seated yoga with Suzanne.

Monday 20th
The Friendly Food Club will prepare lunch for us, followed by a visit from actors Michele O’Brien and Teresa Grimaldi who are researching seaside memories for their new show called ‘Dippers’.  This promises to be a fun and fascinating afternoon.

Step Outside Garden Group

Gentle gardening and produce to take home. Remember to bring your gardening gloves, sun lotion and a sun hat, etc., plus extra water to drink and a bag for produce. Please don’t forget to donate at this group, as we need your donations to keep up and running.

Hot Weather

We are still able to keep going at some of our groups and offer gentle, fascinating, and fun activities, plus plenty of cold drinks. This very much depends on the venue and how cool we can keep it. Please check with us beforehand to find out which groups are still on or cancelled before you set out. Also don’t attend if you feel unwell.

One Step at a Time

A big cheer to Laura and Sam, who are taking on around 100 miles of the Camino de Santiago in support of In Jolly Good Company, inspired by Laura’s mum, Mary, who regularly attends our Step Outside Gardening Group. Mary enjoys the chance to spend time outdoors, share a cup of tea and connect with friendly faces through the group, and the support she receives has inspired Laura and Sam to give something back.

Laura and Sam set off at 5.30 am on 24 June to make the most of the cooler temperatures, with beautiful views and steep climbs feeling much more manageable before the heat rose. Carrying all their belongings and staying in traditional pilgrim hostels along the way, it’s an incredible challenge and we’re so grateful for their support.
